Shoemaker duo Matilda Sandström and Younès Othman is operating from their studio located in Sandström’s 384 year old family property surrounded by deep Dalecarlian forests, writing their own folk tale interlaced with Othman’s Tunisian Amazigh roots, aiming to marry diversities and enlightening similarities by the cross-fertilization of cultural traditions beyond borders.

Holgården’s housed animals throughout all time and until the 1980s. Today the family’s only remaining shepherd is 90 year old Mohammed, 2500 miles straight south. The residents in the Dala farm has since illiteracy engraved their housemark onto tools, household utencils and even buildings that for some reason left the property. The same housemark as the one in HOL’s shoe stamp. A symbolic language almost identical to that of grandmother Hedda’s face tattoos, siyala, based on tifinagh and jedwel – a pagan tradition to keep desert spirits, jnoun, away.
